I recently completed a medicinal mushroom training day with Martin Powell. He introduced us to the biochemistry and phytochemistry of a range of fascinating mushrooms with documented medicinal benefits. There is a long history of mushrooms been consumed for their life enhancing properties in Asia and they are now increasingly been recognised in the west as well. Some of the mushrooms recommended include Reishi, Cordycepts, Snow Fungus, Chaga, Lion’s Mane and Shiitake. However Martin advocates we all eat at least 3 portions of mushrooms a week of any kind, the humble button mushroom is fine too. I am really excited about incorporating more in my diet!
